I'm looking forward to this! Either time should work for me - and Remy will bring some books too.

Thanks Cvetka for organising that book club.

Martine, that’s fine. It seems that our first meeting is going to be on Thursday, the 22nd since the majority who signed up for the discussion group prefers this date. The agenda for this rather short meeting will be to agree on a regular meeting place, date and time. Moreover, to get some input from all participants on the books that they would like to read. Re: BOOk CLUB DISCUSSION GROUP
Well, it was a very short meeting - about 5 minutes since only 2 of us could stay. And so, I will recommend the book that I just finished - Turkish Delight. You can check it out from the library as soon as I return it!
It'll be a great vocabulary builder, I promise - I learned at least 4 new words.

Re: BOOk CLUB DISCUSSION GROUP
I will be en route to the US when you meet - have a good meeting and I look forward to hearing, which book was choosen to be the first read. I met Alistair McCallum Smith (The No.1 Detective Agency) here at the Kolkata Book Fair and heard him tell us how he was influenced by an Indian writer - R.K. Narayan, who never left India but wrote such lovely stories. I also took a day trip to a place called Shantiniketan, which was begun by Rabindranath Tagore (Noble Laureate) where classes are held under the trees and where he wrote many of his books. He was a handsome devil and quite the ladies man. More on this when I return.

Re: BOOk CLUB DISCUSSION GROUP
Hi Regina, the Book Club meeting hasn't been a success story. There were just two eager readers: Kate and I attended. We exchanged some interesting book tips and decided to wait with a second meeting until more people are interested to join. Cvetka

Re: BOOk CLUB DISCUSSION GROUP
I'm sorry the book reading hasn't got off to a good start - the same thing happened last year. I hope as the weather warms up it will become more popular. Also a lot of our members are not very fluent in English, but if we picked books that are in simple English and not too intricate, more people may be interested. Another thought, may be we need to explain better what a book group is all about and ask for titles that members have enjoyed reading. These are just quick thoughts off the top of my head as I take a break from unpacking.
See some of you on Wednesday and more of you on Thursday.

Re: BOOk CLUB DISCUSSION GROUP
Cvetka, your recommendations must have been good - the library had 8 copies and they were all checked out! My suggestion Turkish Delight was actually somewhat facetious - it's a regency romance with a complex love story and plenty of people who would get along so much better if they just told each other the truth about how they felt. It's a fun read, but not the stuff of deep discussions really. If you click on the book's title in my post, there's a link where you can see its cover.
